We are thrilled that Manufactured Landscapes is now out on DVD in Canada! We
know that millions of people have seen and been moved by The Corporation and
we think this film is another powerful moment in filmmaking. Corporation
co-director Mark Achbar describes it as "a disturbingly beautiful film - an
experience full of aesthetic pleasures, tempered by sorrow, and the
sickening recognition of our own culpability, as we see people and the earth
doing their best, but ultimately failing, to cope with the larger
consequences of our indulgent, oblivious, wasteful, global economy."
Building on the momentum from our work with The Corporation (and of all of
your support) we are developing a Campaign 4 Corporate Harm Reduction. Our
mission is to bring ideas to audiences, audiences to action and action to
outcome. By choosing to purchase DVDs with us, you will not only make a
valued addition to your library, but you will also support the development
of our campaigns.
About The Film
A factory that makes 20 million irons a year. A dam which razed 13 cities to the ground and displaced over a million people. A city where skyscrapers stretch back as far as the eye can see. These are the subjects for renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky’s camera. “Manufactured Landscapes” travels with him through China, witnessing that country’s massive industrial revolution and visiting sites never before seen in the West. The film, like his stunning and disturbing photographs, meditates on the human impact on the planet without trying to reach simplistic judgements or reductive resolutions. In the process, it shifts our consciouness about the world and the way we live in it. www.mercuryfilms.ca
