Dark Cloud Educational Package

Project Description

Dark Cloud: The High Cost of Cyberbullying explores the devastating impacts of cyberbullying on the lives of young people. We developed educational resources and a digital campaign for the film to help parents, educators and youth understand the impacts of cyberbullying and how to respond. This included creating an online, interactive guide featuring impactful video clips, quizzes and more that is fully responsive and accessible.

Indian Horse: e-learning modules

Project Description

Through this project, our hope is to build understanding in non-Indigenous Canadians about why things look the way they do for Indigenous Peoples today. We will be rolling out interactive educational modules starting in September 2018 for the school year. Our resources will help students and educators discuss this history in a safe and culturally relevant way.
Richard Wagamese’ award-winning novel Indian Horse is being taught in thousands of Canadian classrooms, with over 100,000 copies of the book in circulation. The story of Saul Indian Horse hit the big screen back in April 2018. Now we have launched the educational DVD.  Help us make sure that the Indian Horse film reaches high school classrooms across the country, and that it has long-tale life as a resource that fosters empathy, healing and understanding.

Naloxone Wakes You Up

Project Description

We created a video that trains youth how to recognize and respond to an overdose for the BC Centre for Disease Control's Take Home Naloxone program. We also worked with Inner City Youth to put together an art booklet based on a research project with street-involved youth in Vancouver who were asked about their experience with the program. Some of their meaningful comments are featured alongside illustrations by youth artists. Since these projects overlapped, we were able to work the youths' material into the video as well. Read a blog post for more details.

Love Intersections

Project Description

Love Intersections started as a blog project between several queer people of colour (QTIPOC) who were looking for an avenue to respond to the racism experienced from and within the queer community. As a group of cutiePOC activists, artists, and friends, we find reprieve in creative and meaningful ways to build solidarity across communities through the language of love and empathy.
Our passion for social justice ties together our multifaceted dimensions of identities ranging from feminist, sex positive, racialized, settler-colonial and queer experiences. Our work is situated on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples – with gratitude for the Musqueum, Squamish, Stó:lo and Tsleil-Waututh nations.
At the heart of our project, Love Intersections fundamentally operates from an anti-oppression framework – where we extend our lens to share stories of people living, breathing, surviving and dancing in the social margins. In order to promote visibility and intersectional representation on people navigating differences in race, class, gender, sexuality, dis/ability, age, spirit and spirituality, we invite you in to make artful social change with us through the radical act of storytelling.
We embrace our collective evolution – revolution – as flawed and complex human beings who fall and make mistakes. We can only hope to pick ourselves up, elevate one another, cultivate compassion, make more mistakes, and tell our stories.

SACY: Youth Substance Abuse Prevention in Vancouver

Project Description

SACY (School Age Children and Youth) is an extremely effective program run by the Vancouver School Board and Vancouver Coastal Health that educates about substance use and abuse. The aim is to empower youth to speak up, get smart, stay safe, and to get support when they need it. For this project, the Hello Cool World team collaborated with the SACY coordinator and several facilitators to bring together diverse high school students from all over Vancouver. The goal was to make an up-to-date conversation starter, that feels real and that is clearly about Vancouver. This was done to fill a need for materials that reflected local youth's concerns and contained their voices. For this reason we named the video "Share your Voice."

That's So Sexy - Gay Version

We re-edited them during our 10th annivesary and Opt's 50th celebrations and aired them on CBC TV on Valentines day 2011.
